What will I learn?

Biblical Studies is a specialized academic program led by expert faculty who prepare students to interpret Scripture and to investigate the major issues involved in biblical studies.

The MA in Biblical Studies consists of 30 semester hours, which includes six 600 level courses four required courses (Advanced OT and NT Exegesis and Seminar) and two elective courses and a thesis.

Program Distinctive:

  • Biblical Studies faculty at the forefront of research in the Old and New Testaments and Intertestamental Literature.
  • A substantial thesis component during which students work closely with two faculty members.
  • A library of Biblical Studies books, journals and online resources that is one of the largest in Canada.

  • Colloquia and department-sponsored seminars, which allow students to engage with visiting scholars.
  • TWU is home to the Dead Sea Scroll Institute, the Septuagint Institute, and one of the largest collections of New Testament manuscript facsimiles in North America.

Entry requirements

For international students

Students may be admitted into the M.A. in Biblical Studies under one of the following three categories:

  • BA in Biblical Studies or the equivalent 42 credit hours in Biblical Studies, including 12 semester hours of Hebrew and 12 semester hours of Greek.
  • Applicants with a BA degree in another discipline can be admitted into a qualifying period of Biblical Studies and languages.
  • Applicants with an M.Div (or equivalent) and who meet the language requirements also qualify.
  • Applicants should have a minimum GPA of 3.0 (B) in the last two years of the BA (half of these courses at the upper level), including the 12 semester hours of upper level course work in the major with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (B+).

International applicants are required to submit either a TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) minimum score of 100 iBT or equivalent or an IELTS (International English Language Testing System) minimum score of 7.0 on all bands as a proof of your English language abilities.
